Conversion triggers can be a great alternative tracking method for any program. The gist is that you can drop them into different communications, and track affiliate attribution, without relying on a click.

There are 3 different types of conversion triggers: Coupon Code, Email, and SKU.

Tips for Using Coupon Codes

📍 Where we are in the app: Account>Settings>Integrations (Select your store)

Tip 1: We recommend using coupon code conversion triggers for your image-driven channels: Instagram, TikTok, Twitch, YouTube, Snapchat, and the like.

Tip 2: Consider your settings. Though you can set your conversion triggers to be used at will and approved automatically, we recommend setting up a regular process to review conversions. Either way, we recommend you monitor activity carefully.

Tip 3: You can exclude specific coupons like holiday coupons or site-wide coupons to prevent abuse by affiliates or for another reason. To turn on this feature, email us at [email protected].

Once the feature is enabled the Account>Settings>Coupon Exclusions tab will appear. Any coupon codes that you submit on this tab cannot be claimed by your affiliates as their own conversion triggers

Tip 4: Include a deeper discount than you usually would to help affiliates convert their audience into new customers for your business. You’ll want to go at least 10-15% or higher.

Tip 5: Use shareable discount links (Shopify makes this easy) to reduce the chances of coupon codes being added to coupon sites. Discount links can be included in emails, landing pages and social content.

Tip 6: If a coupon code suddenly has a one-day spike in sales you’ll want to zoom in to investigate, just to be sure the activity is legit. And remember, we’re here to help. Don’t hesitate to start an in-app chat or send us an email at [email protected].

Note: In order for coupon codes to work, you’ve got to set them up in both Refersion and from your store’s admin.

Tips for Using Email Conversion Triggers

📍 Where we are in the app: Account>Settings>Conversion Triggers.

Tip 1: We recommend using email conversion triggers for affiliates with a network of customers or lifetime customers.

Tip 2: Encourage affiliates to submit their own customer emails for tracking, and save yourself some time:

Under Allow Affiliates to create their own Email Conversion Triggers choose Yes, and Save Changes.

Now, from their Affiliate Dashboard, your reps will see an option to submit emails.

Tip 3: Consider turning on auto-approval for this conversion trigger type. It may quickly become a time-consuming task to approve them all manually.

Under Auto-approve email conversion triggers choose Yes, and Save Changes.

Tips for using SKU Conversion Triggers

📍 Where we are in the app: Manage>Affiliates>(Select Affiliate)>Conversion Triggers>+Add Trigger.

Tip 1: Use SKU conversion triggers when you want to set up a royalty payment (tying one affiliate to one product).

Tip 2: Think of SKU conversion triggers as supplemental — part of your overall tracking framework — as opposed to your go-to.

Tip 3: Consider co-marketing campaigns. For example, a design company might feature an artist of the month, and all of that artist’s products are tied to SKUs. We’ve seen these campaigns work well.
