Coupon Code Conversion Triggers allow you to create unique coupon codes associated with specific affiliates. They provide an alternate way to track affiliate orders without the use of affiliate links.

How they work: Whenever a customer places an order using an affiliate's code, that affiliate will automatically be credited for the order.

Please note that for expiration dates - You'll need to add expiration dates to your coupon codes from your e-commerce store.

To create coupon codes for affiliates, you'll need to both create the coupon code in Refersion, associate it with a specific affiliate, and then ensure it is set up within your e-commerce store so that it is accepted during checkout.

Shopify and BigCommerce users can streamline the process by automatically sending new coupon codes created in Refersion to those stores.

Note: You can also allow affiliates to choose their own coupon code when applying to your program. If you do this though, then please be sure to set up Coupon Exclusions on your Refersion account. You can exclude specific coupons like holiday coupons or site-wide coupons to prevent abuse by affiliates or for another reason. To turn on this feature, email us at [email protected]. Once the feature is enabled, a Coupon Exclusions option will appear in the menu from Account > Settings.

Create Coupon Code Conversion Triggers - All Stores

You can manually create conversion triggers from the Affiliate Page or your Dashboard. If you do this though, then please be sure to set up Coupon Exclusions.

From the Affiliate Page

Go to Manage>Affiliates and click on the name of the affiliate you'd like to create the coupon conversion trigger for:

Click Conversion Triggers on the left, then click Add Trigger:

Choose Coupon Code under Type, enter the Coupon Code, and click Create.

The new Coupon Code will appear in the Conversion Triggers view:

From the Refersion Dashboard

From your Dashboard, click Add Conversion Trigger:

Choose the Affiliate you'd like to create the Coupon Code Conversion Trigger for. Then, select Coupon Code under Type, enter the Coupon Code, and click Add Trigger.

Automatically Push Coupon Codes to Shopify or BigCommerce

With both Shopify and BigCommerce, you can configure your account to automatically push coupons from Refersion to your e-commerce platform. But some important notes first:

  • If you need to make any changes to a coupon code that’s already been created in Refersion and your e-commerce platform, then you’ll need to manually make that update in both places (for example, updating the name of a coupon code in Shopify will not automatically update the corresponding coupon code in Refersion and vice versa).

  • Likewise, if you need to delete a coupon code that was created in both platforms, then you’ll need to manually delete it in both places (for example, deleting a coupon code in Shopify will not automatically delete the corresponding coupon code in Refersion and vice versa).

Push coupons to Shopify

To have Refersion automatically push coupon conversion triggers that you create into your Shopify store please follow these steps:

  1. From Refersion, go to the Account>Settings>Shopify tab

  2. Under Shopify Discount Code Creation, select Yes, and adjust the other settings as needed.

Note: If you haven’t provided API credentials for your store, you will see the following message at the top of the screen:

Click the provide us with additional API Credentials link, and follow the instructions on the following popup to provide Refersion with the required API access.

You can follow the ‘click here’ prompt in the popup to take you to the correct page in your BigCommerce store to create a new API account. Alternatively head to the Advanced Settings tab:
