Running a test order is an important step to making sure that your shop is integrated with your Refersion account and that orders are tracking properly.
Depending on your e-commerce platform though, you'll need to follow different instructions to get integrated for conversion. Please reference our full list of supported integrations and find the relevant integration guide from there, or feel free to email [email protected] as we're happy to help with testing or troubleshooting your site's integration with Refersion.
Very Important Note: Placing a test order is a REQUIREMENT to make sure your affiliates are credited appropriately.
Once your site has been integrated with Refersion, then follow the steps below to place a test order.
Go to the Performance>Overview tab and click Perform Test Order
2. Choose an affiliate to test with. When merchants open a new Refersion account, a test affiliate account with the same name and email as the main account holder is created for you. You can use your own link and then click Get Test Link.
We recommend running test orders using Incognito mode in Chrome. This ensures there are no previous cookies that can interfere with order tracking. You can easily get to this by right-clicking on Go To Link and choosing Open Link in Incognito Window. Also, please ensure that your incognito window is NOT blocking tracking.
Note: Safari Private Browsing is not suitable for running test orders.
3. Place an actual order. This mimics the experience of being a customer who is referred to your site by an affiliate. You can create a 90% off coupon code for yourself if you wish, and you can cancel and refund the order after testing is done (usually around 10 minutes). You can also place an order on a test product if you have one.
4. Wait ~10 minutes and check to see that the conversion has been tracked in your Refersion account. Depending on your e-commerce platform though, the order might actually need to be marked as paid in your store before it gets sent to Refersion for processing.
To check, go to the Conversions tab. If you record a successful test order, then that's all there is to it! You are now ready to recruit affiliates and have them promote your products. You can also cancel and refund your order as soon as the conversion is tracked.
Important Note: It may take up to 10 minutes for the conversion to appear. If you are still not seeing the order populate after about an hour, then email [email protected] as we're happy to help! Also, note that test orders do not count against your affiliate order limit, and that they will always come in as a pending conversion regardless of your settings.
