When your affiliates promote for you, they can use several types of conversion triggers to drive customers to your store. Of course if a customer places an order after using an affiliate’s conversion trigger (for example, after clicking their referral link or using their coupon code at checkout), then we’ll attribute the order as a conversion.
On the other hand, an affiliate could place an order using their own links or coupon, and Refersion would still attribute a conversion. If you want to allow the affiliate to earn commission on their order as a sort of discount (for example, if you only allow your affiliates to promote with links and not coupon codes), then you’re all set! Just approve the conversion and process a commission payment as normal.
Unqualify Self-Referred Conversions
If you don't want to give commission to affiliates when they place orders themselves, then we’ve got you covered!
We can enable a setting on your Refersion merchant account that will automatically unqualify self-referred conversions.
To do this, Refersion will check to see if the customer email and the referring affiliate email on a conversion are an exact match. If they are, then the conversion will be automatically unqualified. Here’s an example of what that looks like:
Commission is not owed on unqualified conversions, and unqualified conversions are not visible to referring affiliates. Just send an email to [email protected] if you want the feature enabled on your account!
Note: There may be cases in which affiliates use a different email address to make self-referral orders. Refersion’s system will not be able to detect such cases. If you notice this, then you can manually deny the conversion from the Manage>Conversions tab.
